A domain past its renewal window can still be recovered during the redemption period with a restore, which our support team runs for you. You can't restore a domain yourself.
When you need a restore
The redemption period runs from 30 to 60 days after expiry. You need a restore once the renew page says This domain can no longer be renewed.
The If this domain lapses timeline on the domain's page shows the last day a restore is possible.
Requesting a restore
- Open the domain and click Renew Domain.
- Click Request a restore. Our support form opens with your domain filled in.
- Send the request. Support confirms the exact cost and how to pay.
If the domain's page shows a Restore Domain button instead, use it to email support. You can also email [email protected] or call +1 602-812-6937, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. US Eastern, Monday to Friday.
What it costs
A restore costs the restore price for your extension, plus a renewal. Restore prices are in the Restore column of our full price list, and on each extension's page. The domain's timeline also shows the cost to recover it.
If an extension has no restore price listed, we don't publish one for it yet. Contact support for a quote. See also our Redemption Fee Schedule.
Restore fees can't be refunded once the restore is done. Make sure you want to keep the domain before you pay.
How long it takes
Contact us as early as you can, because support handles restores during business hours. Once support submits a restore, the registry usually completes it within 24 to 48 hours. Some registries take up to 5 business days.
When it's done, the domain is active again with a new expiration date.
After redemption ends
When the redemption period ends, the domain enters pending delete. It can't be renewed or restored. About 75 days after expiry, the name is released and anyone can register it.
You can try to register it again then. Search for it and click Notify to get an email if it becomes available. Someone else may register it first.
To avoid all this, keep auto-renew on. See How auto-renew works.
