A premium domain is a name its registry has priced above the standard rate for its extension. The registry sets the premium price, our price is based on it, and we show it upfront.
Spotting one
Premium names carry a Premium badge in search results. We check the price with the registry as you search, and show the first-year price it quotes.
Renewing a premium name
The registry sets renewal prices too, so a premium name may renew at a premium price. That price can change. Before every renewal, we ask the registry for the current price and charge based on it.
The renewal rate shown in search may be the extension's standard rate. If you need a premium name's renewal price before you buy, ask support.
To stay in control, set a Maximum Price per Year in the domain's auto-renew settings. If a renewal would cost more, we hold it and email you. See How auto-renew works.
If we can't confirm a premium renewal price, the renew page asks you to try again shortly or to contact support.
The $10,000 limit
We don't sell premium names priced above $10,000 a year online. Names over that limit are left out of search suggestions. If you search for one by its exact name, it shows as unavailable.
If you're interested in a name over the limit, contact support. The same applies to renewing one.
Checking out
Buying a premium name needs a one-time identity check:
- At checkout, look for Identity verification required.
- Click Verify Your ID. Stripe Identity handles the check, and we never see your documents.
- Once you're verified, return to checkout and pay.
You can also verify ahead of time on the Identity Verification page.
We check every premium price with the registry again before you pay. If it has changed, you'll see Premium pricing changed with the old and new prices. Click Update Cart to accept the new price, or remove the domain. If the registry can't be reached, click Retry verification.
If the registry raises the price after you've paid, we refund you rather than register the name. See Refunds.
