You must keep the contact details on your domains accurate and current, and update them within 7 days of any change. This is part of our Domain Registration Agreement and an ICANN requirement.
What you agreed to
When you register a domain, you agree to provide accurate, reliable contact details. That covers the registrant and the administrative and technical contacts, including names, postal addresses, email addresses and phone numbers.
Under the agreement, each of these is a material breach that can lead to suspension or cancellation of the domain:
- Willfully giving inaccurate or unreliable information.
- Willfully failing to update it within 7 days of a change.
- Not responding for more than 15 days to our questions about whether your details are accurate.
WHOIS privacy doesn't change this. We need accurate details even when they aren't shown publicly.
Updating your details
- Go to Contacts (
/account/contacts). - Select Edit next to the contact.
- Make your changes and select Update Contact.
At registries that keep contact data, we send the updated details to the registry for each domain that uses the contact. If you change the email address, we send a verification email to the new one. See Verify your registrant email.
The yearly reminder
Once a year we email each registrant contact to review the details we hold, as ICANN's Whois Data Reminder Policy requires. The email shows the name, email and phone on file and asks you to confirm the email address.
Confirm it within 15 days, and update anything that's out of date. The link in the email expires after 7 days.
Reporting inaccurate WHOIS data
If WHOIS or RDAP data for a domain we sponsor looks false, tell us:
- Email [email protected], or use the support form.
- Include the domain name, which details look wrong, and why you believe they're inaccurate.
We review each report. Where it's warranted, we ask the registrant to correct or confirm their details. A registrant who doesn't respond within 15 days risks suspension or cancellation of the domain.
