Your prepaid balance is money you add to your account in advance and spend on domains later. Manage it on the Account Balance page at Billing > Balance.
Adding funds
- Click Add Funds.
- Enter an amount in US dollars. The minimum deposit is $5.00.
- Choose a saved card or Use a new card, then pay.
The funds appear once the charge goes through. A deposit isn't a purchase, so we email you a receipt rather than an invoice. You get an invoice when you spend the balance.
The balance is in US dollars only. It doesn't expire. Every deposit, purchase and refund appears in the Statement on the same page.
What it pays for
The balance pays for registrations, renewals and transfers priced in US dollars. Each order is paid entirely from the balance or entirely by card, never split.
- Checkout and the renew page: use the Pay [amount] from Balance button. It appears when the balance covers the whole order.
- Auto-renew: we use the balance first when it covers the renewal, then your default card. See How auto-renew works.
- AI assistants: purchases they make for your account are paid from the balance only.
Low-balance alert
Set an amount, and we email the account owners when a purchase takes the balance below it. Choose from $1.00 to $100,000.00, or leave it blank to turn the alert off.
We alert once each time the balance drops below, then not again until it's back at or above your amount.
Auto top-up
After you set a low-balance alert, you can turn on auto top-up:
- Enter a Target, USD above your alert amount.
- Enter a Monthly limit, USD of at least $5.00.
- Tick the box authorizing us to charge your default card without asking each time, up to the monthly limit.
- Click Turn on.
When the balance drops below your alert, we charge your default card enough to bring it back to the target. We never charge more than your monthly limit in a calendar month. Once the limit is used up, you get the low-balance email instead.
Auto top-up turns off when you click Turn off or clear the low-balance alert. It also turns itself off if a charge keeps failing, the card needs authentication, or there's no default card. We email the owners when that happens.
Changing the alert or auto top-up needs permission to manage billing on the account.
Refunds
If an order paid from your balance can't be completed, the money goes straight back to your balance. To get unused funds back, contact support. See Refunds and our Prepaid Balance Terms.
